Cornelius Leadership Congress

The Cornelius Leadership Congress of the Ohio Nurses Association is named for Dorothy A. Cornelius, RN, former Executive Director of ONA. Its purpose is to recognize members of ONA who demonstrate the leadership characteristics of Dorothy Cornelius in their work and with the Ohio Nurses Association.

Criteria for Nominations:

1. Recipient must be a member of ONA or ONA staff at the time of the nomination and at the time of the induction into the Congress. The recipient has maintained membership and/or employment in the organization for five years or longer.

Nominator must supply one concise and specific narrative example of the nominee's leadership for each of the following:

2. Exhibits outstanding oral, listening and written communication skills within a professional organization.

3. Demonstrates the ability to motivate others by developing mentoring and collegial relationships within a professional organization.

4. Analyzes problems and develops strategies for solution by thinking logically and creatively within a professional organization.

5. Demonstrates caring attributes within a professional organization.

Procedure:

  • To nominate a member or staff person, complete the online electronic form.
  • Nominations may be submitted by individual members and/or ONA employees.
  • Nominations shall be unrestricted by considerations of nationality, race, religion, creed, lifestyle, color, gender, health status, disability, sexual orientation, or age.
  • No resumes, curriculum vitae or letters of support are to be submitted.
  • A blind review will be conducted using a scale based on the information submitted on the completed application.  No other information will or can be considered.
  • The deadline for all electronic nominations to be completed is July 31, 2025.
  • The Convention Committee will review the nominations and recommend the potential inductees for Board action.
  • The Board's selection will be notified prior to ONA Convention.  
  • Members of ONA will become members of the Congress. Staff members who are not also ONA members will be named colleagues.

The nomination criteria must outline contributions and participation within the professional organization. The leadership skills demonstrated by the nominee must have been made within ONA either at the Local Unit, and/or State level.
